What is SSW Infrastructure Construction?

SSW Infrastructure Construction is a work program in Japan aimed at foreign workers who have skills and experience in the construction field. This sector covers a wide range of infrastructure development and maintenance work such as roads, bridges, tunnels, drainage systems, and various public facilities that support the daily life of Japanese society.

Because of the high demand for workers in the construction and infrastructure development sector, Japan is opening opportunities for foreign workers through the Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) program to work legally with rights and protections equal to those of Japanese workers.

Qualifications for the SSW Infrastructure Construction Program

Program Timeline

• Language Preparation (9 months): Study Japanese until passing JFT-Basic A2 or JLPT N4 and prepare for the SSW Infrastructure Construction skill exam.
• SSW Exam Preparation (1 month): Study and prepare for the SSW Infrastructure Construction skill exam.
• Document Preparation (1 month): Prepare documents, CV, and interview preparation.
• Job Matching (2 months): Submit your CV to companies in Japan to be matched with available vacancies.
• Interview (2 months): After passing the document screening, participants will attend direct interviews with Japanese companies.
• Pre-Departure Preparation (1 month): After being accepted for work, visa processing, flight tickets, and accommodation will be completed before departure.

What is the Tokutei Ginou (SSW) Visa?

The Tokutei Ginou or Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) visa is a program introduced by the Japanese government to address labor shortages in various industry sectors, including construction and infrastructure. This visa allows foreign workers to work legally in Japan with rights, wages, and benefits equal to those of Japanese workers. Through the SSW visa, workers can gain valuable international work experience while building a professional career in Japan within a safe and structured work environment. There are 2 types of SSW visa, namely: SSW 1 is a work visa for foreign workers with basic skills that allows them to work in Japan for a maximum of 5 years, but they cannot yet bring their family. SSW 2 is an advanced level with higher skills, a period of stay that can be extended indefinitely as long as the requirements are met, the ability to bring a spouse and children, as well as better opportunities to settle in Japan long-term.
