What an LPK Is, and Our Role

LPK stands for Lembaga Pelatihan Kerja — an Indonesian vocational training institution. On the Japan route, it teaches you the language, briefs you on how a Japanese workplace runs, prepares you for the interview, and walks your paperwork through to the airport. It is not the employer and not immigration; those two decide whether you are hired and whether you fly.

An LPK is not a visa route — this is the most common mix-up. The visa route you depart on is Tokutei Ginou (SSW) or Gijinkoku, each with its own sectors, requirements and vacancies. The LPK gets you ready for one of them. So the question is never “LPK or Tokutei Ginou?”; it is “which route fits me, and which institution prepares me for it?”

Nakamura Study Japan runs both routes: Tokutei Ginou (SSW) for Japan's industry sectors, and Gijinkoku for graduates entering professional roles. Both are guided end to end, from the first consultation to the flight, and support continues after you land.

How to Check an LPK Is Safe

Take this list to any institution you are considering, ours included. One that answers all seven comfortably is worth trusting with the next two years of your life.

  1. Ask to see the licence

    A legitimate LPK holds a vocational-training licence and works with a licensed placement company for departures. Ask for the numbers and match them against the actual documents — not just a logo on a brochure.

  2. Get the costs in writing before you pay

    Not just the total, but what is included and what is not. An institution that quotes one big number without a breakdown is where the surprise invoices come from.

  3. Pay the institution's account, and keep the receipt

    Paying into a staff member's personal account is the warning sign most often missed. Every payment should have a written receipt in the institution's name.

  4. Be suspicious of guaranteed departures and guaranteed pay

    Whether you are hired is decided by the Japanese company and by immigration, not by the training institution. Anyone guaranteeing that you will definitely go is promising something that is not theirs to promise.

  5. Visit the office and the classroom

    See the classroom, meet the teachers, ask how long participants typically study before interviews. An institution you can only reach by chat is one you cannot go to when something goes wrong.

  6. Read the employment contract before signing

    The contract is issued by the Japanese company hiring you, and its terms — pay, hours, deductions, housing — should be clear to you before you sign. A good institution reads it through with you.

  7. Look for proof you can check yourself

    Public reviews under real names and faces, departures documented on the institution's own channels, or the participants studying in the classroom on the day you visit. Watch for the reverse, too: an institution willing to hand a stranger an alumnus's phone number is treating its participants' personal data carelessly — and one day that is your data.

What is the difference between an LPK, an SO and a P3MI?

An LPK is the institution that trains you. An SO (Sending Organization) is the sending body on the internship / ginou jisshuu route. A P3MI is a licensed company that places Indonesian migrant workers abroad. They are three different roles and one institution can work with another — so the question to ask is not only "is this an LPK" but who trains you and who actually sends you.

What are the entry requirements for the work programmes?

Requirements differ by sector and by the hiring company, and every programme in our catalogue lists its own. The common ones: an age within the sector's range, at least a senior high school qualification for the Tokutei Ginou route, Japanese to the level that sector requires, physical and mental fitness confirmed by a medical check-up, and no criminal record. The Gijinkoku route generally requires a diploma or bachelor's degree in a relevant field.

How long does the training take before departure?

It depends on your starting Japanese level and the sector you choose, since each sector sets its own language standard and skills exam. Starting from zero takes considerably longer than starting with N4. A realistic timeline for your situation is worked out during the consultation, before any fee is involved.

Can I join with no Japanese at all?

You can start with none, but you cannot depart without it. Every Tokutei Ginou sector requires proof of language ability — usually JFT-Basic (A2) or JLPT N4 — and the interview with the Japanese company is conducted in Japanese. Participants starting from zero are therefore routed into our language course first, and reach the job-matching stage afterwards.

Is there a financing or instalment option?

For the Tokutei Ginou route there is a financing option covering up to 100% of the programme fee through a third-party facility, subject to approval and availability. The terms are set out on the programme costs page and can be talked through during the consultation.

Where are the offices and the classrooms?

Our head office is in Medan (Jl. Veteran No.128, Medan Timur) and our branch office is in South Tangerang (Jl. Quantum Raya No.9A Blok QR, Kelapa Dua). Both are open for in-person consultations: come, see the place and ask anything before you decide. From another city, you can consult over WhatsApp.

How do I check that a training institution is safe?

Ask to see the institution's licence and the name of the placement company that will actually send you, get the full cost breakdown in writing before paying anything, make sure payments go to the institution's own account with a proper receipt, and visit the office in person. Treat any guarantee of departure or of a salary figure as a warning sign — whether you are hired is decided by the Japanese employer and by immigration, not by a training institution.
