Common questions
Is it really free?
Yes. Every mission, review and the leaderboard are free. No ads, no subscription, no locked lessons.
I can't read hiragana yet. Can I start?
Yes. World 1 opens with the Kana Academy: 10 short hiragana and katakana lessons. Romaji shows automatically until you can read kana.
What does the game simulate?
Practise responding to conversations and choosing expressions in Japan: airport immigration, trains, convenience stores, school and job interviews. Locations unlock as you progress.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Play in the browser on a phone or laptop — on iPhone, use Safari. Sign in with Google and your progress follows you to every device.
How do I find out my Japanese level?
Take a placement test inside the game, free. Check your Japanese against JLPT N5–N4 material (90 questions, Minna no Nihongo lessons 1–50) or N3–N1 (90 questions) for learners already at N4 or above. The result appears at once, is saved to your profile and can go to a consultant over WhatsApp.
