Nihongo Journey: A Shorter Start for New Learners

Nihongo Journey has updated its starting flow to help new learners choose a starting point sooner. Setup has moved from seven stages to four: language, nickname, learning goal and starting point.
Choose where to begin
Beginners can start from the basics. Learners with previous experience can take an optional 14-question quick check. Its result helps select a practice starting point; it is not an official JLPT score or certificate.
Other settings remain editable
Your avatar and daily target use defaults that you can change in Profile. Existing learners retain their progress. This update simplifies setup; it does not remove exercises or unlock every level at once.
Use it alongside your studies
Missions, review and listening practice remain part of the experience. Audio uses browser-generated speech. Listen-and-repeat does not record your voice or assess pronunciation.
The app requires Google sign-in and offers Indonesian and English interfaces. Read the Nihongo Journey introduction, or combine practice with our short listening routine.
