When people talk about Japan, one thing that often stands out is the transportation system. From the world-famous bullet trains to clean and reliable local buses, getting around in Japan is smooth and stress-free.
If you're planning to study or live in Japan, understanding how the transport system works will be super helpful. Don’t worry—everything is organized, efficient, and easy to use. Let’s go through it together
Trains: The Heart of Japanese Transportation
In Japan, trains aren’t just for travel—they’re a part of daily life. Most cities, towns, and even rural areas are connected by an extensive railway network. There are several types of trains, such as:
JR (Japan Railways): covers many regions across Japan
Local and subway trains: ideal for getting around within cities
Shinkansen (bullet train): super fast and incredibly punctual
The best part? Japanese trains are almost never late. Even a few seconds of delay is taken seriously
Ticket Prices: Affordable If You Know the Tricks
At first glance, some transport costs in Japan—especially for the bullet train—can seem pricey. But there are smart ways to save:
IC Cards (like Suica or Pasmo): prepaid cards that make travel easy and sometimes offer small discounts
Japan Rail Pass: great for tourists or students who plan to travel between cities
Student commuter passes: many schools offer discounted rates for specific routes
With the right planning, transportation in Japan can be both budget-friendly and super convenient
What is it like to study and work in Japan? What career opportunities are available for young Indonesians? These are the key questions discussed in the workshop 'Job Opportunities in Japan' that we held in collaboration with BINUS Square on May 7, 2025.
The term system in Japanese language schools divides the academic year into several study periods (terms), usually lasting 3-4 months each. Each term focuses on specific material and ends with evaluations or exams. This system helps students learn in a structured way, track their progress, and allows curriculum adjustments based on their needs.
Japan is known for its well-structured work system, advanced technology, and unique culture. It's no surprise that many people from around the world, including Indonesia, are interested in working there. However, working in Japan is not something you can do casually. You need to have a valid work visa to live and work legally in the country.
If you're serious about studying, working, or living in Japan, your first step needs to be the right one! Many places offer Japanese language courses, but not all can guide you until you actually depart for Japan.
If you're planning to study, work, or even live long-term in Japan, enrolling in a language school could be your main gateway to achieving that dream. Many international students — including from Indonesia — start their journey in Japan not by jumping straight into university or work, but by attending a Japanese language school.
